Apple’s first foldable iPhone starts at ₹2,99,900 in India, which makes it the most expensive iPhone the company has ever sold here. Pre-orders opened on Friday, October 16, and the first units go on sale on Friday, October 23.
Key Takeaways
- Price in India: ₹2,99,900 for 256GB, going up to ₹4,49,900 for the 2TB model. Prices include taxes.
- Pre-orders: opened on Friday, October 16, 2026 (5:30 PM IST) on Apple’s India online store.
- Sale date: Friday, October 23, 2026.
- Colours: Star White and Night Sky.
- Who should buy: early adopters who want the biggest iPhone screen ever and don’t mind Touch ID instead of Face ID.
- The catch: Touch ID instead of Face ID, no dedicated telephoto lens, eSIM only, and no long-term hinge durability data yet.
If you’re actually thinking of buying one, the details below matter more than the price tag: what each storage tier costs, how it compares with the iPhone 18 Pro Max that’s already in stores, and the handful of things Apple hasn’t proven yet.
iPhone Duo India price: all storage variants
Apple lists four storage options in India, and all prices include taxes.
| Storage | Price in India | EMI from (with instant cashback) |
|---|---|---|
| 256GB | ₹2,99,900 | ₹26,574/month |
| 512GB | ₹3,24,900 | ₹28,842/month |
| 1TB | ₹3,74,900 | ₹33,378/month |
| 2TB | ₹4,49,900 | ₹40,183/month |
The EMI figures are what Apple’s own page shows as the starting monthly amount. Your actual number depends on your card, the tenure and the cashback terms in the footnotes, so treat it as a ballpark. Apple India’s page lists instant cashback on select Amex, Axis Bank and ICICI Bank cards with a minimum purchase of ₹10,001, and No Cost EMI on 3- and 6-month tenures from October 11 to November 11. Terms change, so check the exact offer on Apple’s page at checkout. For the iPhone Duo, that instant cashback is ₹7,000 — the offer is limited to two orders per card within a 90-day period and does not apply to business purchases.
The phone costs $1,999 in the US. At roughly ₹95 per dollar (check the day’s rate), that is about ₹1.9 lakh, so Indian buyers are paying roughly ₹1.1 lakh more. Part of that gap is real: US prices are listed before sales tax, while Indian prices already include GST, and import costs add to it. It is still the same pattern people have complained about with every iPhone launch, only with a bigger number attached this time.
iPhone Duo pre-order and release date in India
- Announced: September 9, 2026 (Apple’s “Surprise and Shine” event)
- Pre-orders opened: Friday, October 16, 2026 (5:30 PM IST)
- On sale: Friday, October 23, 2026
Apple staggered this one. The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max went up for pre-order on Saturday, September 12 and reached stores on September 18, while the Duo was held back by about a month.
Early reports say supply is tighter than for the Pro models, so if you want a specific colour and storage combination, check the delivery date shown on Apple’s page before you pay.
A reality check on delivery: when we checked Apple’s India online store on October 20, 2026, every iPhone Duo variant was showing delivery in January 2027 — around Saturday, January 23 for a Delhi address — even though the phone goes on sale in stores on October 23. If you want one at launch, a physical Apple Store or an authorised retailer may be the faster route.
You can order on Apple’s India online store. Log in beforehand, save your address and payment details, and decide on the storage tier in advance. Colour choices are Star White and Night Sky, and that’s it.
iPhone Duo specs at a glance
- Displays: 7.6-inch inner Super Retina XDR screen and a 5.4-inch outer screen. Apple says the inner display is 50% larger than the iPhone 18 Pro Max’s, and the outer display works like a normal phone when closed.
- Chip: A20 Pro, the same one used in the iPhone 18 Pro series, with a vapor chamber for cooling.
- Cameras: Two 48MP rear cameras (main and ultrawide) and a 12MP front camera. The Duo has no dedicated telephoto lens. Apple lists 0.5x, 1x and 2x optical-quality zoom, and the 2x option comes from the main 48MP camera sensor rather than a separate lens. A feature called Duo Preview shows a live view on the outer screen so the person being photographed can check the framing.
- Battery: Two batteries, one in each half. Apple’s figures are up to 31 hours of video playback on the inner display, up to 44 hours on the outer display and about 24 hours when you split time evenly between both.
- Build: titanium frame and hinge cover, IP68 splash, water and dust resistance. Weight is 254 grams.
- Unlocking: Touch ID in the side button. There is no Face ID. Both displays have Dynamic Island, and the inner display has an under-display FaceTime camera. You can also unlock the phone with an Apple Watch.
- SIM: eSIM only. There is no physical SIM tray, so check that your carrier supports eSIM before you buy.
- Software: A customised version of iOS 27, including Split View so two apps can sit side by side on the inner screen. Apple says Apple Pencil support is coming later this year.
iPhone Duo vs iPhone 18 Pro vs iPhone 18 Pro Max
Most people looking at the Duo are really deciding between a foldable and the regular flagship. Here’s how they line up on the points that actually differ.
| iPhone Duo | iPhone 18 Pro | iPhone 18 Pro Max | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starting price (India) | ₹2,99,900 | ₹1,64,900 | ₹1,79,900 |
| Screen | 7.6″ inner / 5.4″ outer | 6.3″ | 6.9″ |
| Chip | A20 Pro | A20 Pro | A20 Pro |
| Unlock method | Touch ID | Face ID | Face ID |
| Video playback (Apple) | Up to 31h inner / 44h outer | Up to 36h | Up to 45h |
| Colours | 2 | 4 | 4 |
| Available in India | From Oct 23 | Since Sept 18 | Since Sept 18 |
The chip is the same across all three, so day-to-day speed won’t be what separates them. What you’re paying for with the Duo is the screen. Compared with the Pro Max, the extra ₹1,20,000 buys a much bigger canvas and a new way to use the phone, not more power. The Pro Max keeps the edge on the camera system (it has a telephoto lens and a variable-aperture main camera that the Duo lacks), on battery life, and on Face ID.
iPhone Duo vs Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8
If you want a book-style foldable, the iPhone Duo’s real rival is Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8. Indian launch coverage points out that the Duo carries a steeper price tag than rivals like the Fold 8, so you are paying a premium to stay in Apple’s ecosystem. Check the Fold 8’s current price and specs on Samsung’s India site before you decide, since offers on Android foldables change often.
Should you buy the iPhone Duo?
Honestly, for most people the answer is no, at least not on day one. It’s an interesting phone, but a few things are still unproven.
Nobody has tested the hinge over time. The phone hasn’t reached customers yet, so there are no long-term durability results. Apple also hasn’t published a rated number of folds for the screen or hinge. Foldables from other brands have had a rocky first generation, and Apple’s will have to earn its reputation like everyone else’s.
You give up Face ID. If you unlock your phone fifty times a day, going back to a fingerprint reader is a real change, not a footnote.
It is eSIM only. If your carrier or your plan doesn’t support eSIM properly, sort that out first.
The price is hard to justify on features alone. A Pro Max costs ₹1.2 lakh less and is better in a few areas that matter to many buyers.
That said, the Duo could make sense if you:
- read, work or watch a lot on your phone and have always wanted a bigger screen that still fits in a pocket,
- like running two apps side by side,
- already planned to spend flagship money and the price difference doesn’t hurt,
- are comfortable being an early adopter.
If a phone this expensive would mean dipping into savings, take a look at our emergency fund guide before you decide. And if you’d rather wait, independent reviews and real-world durability reports tend to appear within the first few weeks after a device ships, so there’s no penalty for watching how the first buyers get on.
Before you buy: a short checklist
- Check the return window. Look at Apple India’s return and replacement terms for this product before you pay.
- Compare card offers. Instant cashback and no-cost EMI vary by bank, and the terms change. Check Apple’s page for the current offers before you pay.
- Check eSIM support. The Duo has no physical SIM slot, so confirm your carrier can activate an eSIM.
- Pick storage carefully. You can’t upgrade later, and the jump from 256GB to 512GB is ₹25,000.
- Budget for a case. Foldables are awkward to protect, and Apple sells its own cases separately. If you also need audio gear, our wireless earbuds buying guide can help.
- Confirm the details on Apple’s page. Prices and dates can change, so use Apple India’s iPhone Duo page as the final word.
